Metal and Glass Works FAQ Singapore

Common questions about metal fabrication, glass installation, railings, gates, facades and technical topics — with links to in-depth resources.

Metal Fabrication Questions

Do you fabricate in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium?
Yes. We work routinely in EN 10025 mild steel grades (S235JR / S275JR / S355JR), EN 10088 stainless (SS304 / SS316), and EN 573 aluminium (typically 6061-T6 / 6063-T6, plus 5083 for marine plate).
Can you provide shop drawings for client / QP review?
Yes. For medium and large fabrication scopes we issue sectional shop drawings showing material, weld notes, finish and fixings. The QP/PE can verify these against project requirements.
Do you supply mill certificates?
Mill certificates are available for stockist material from suppliers such as TSA (stainless) and JYF (mild steel) on request. Please flag this requirement at quotation stage.

Glass Installation Questions

What glass should I ask for in Singapore?
It depends on what you are solving for: tempered for impact, laminated for fall-protection and post-breakage retention, IGU + Low-E for heat and glare, heat-soaked for high-rise tempered. Read our Singapore Glass Selection Guide.
Do you do shower screens, mirrors and partitions?
Yes — frameless and framed shower screens, bathroom and gym mirrors, and frameless or framed glass partitions for offices and clinics.
What glass build-ups do you supply for balconies and balustrades?
Typical Singapore balustrade build-up is 12.76mm laminated tempered glass (6mm + 1.52mm PVB + 6mm) clamped or channelled. Final spec depends on project loads and should be verified by the consultant.

Railings, Gates and Facade Questions

Should I choose SS304, SS316 or galvanised mild steel for an outdoor handrail?
Inland and most urban exposures: SS304 or galvanised mild steel with topcoat. Coastal/marine: SS316 is preferred. See the lifespan comparison.
Do you handle facade replacements?
Yes — including survey of the existing build-up and like-for-like or upgraded glass and frame specifications. New façade design is typically led by a façade consultant; we coordinate around that.
Can you replace a single broken curtain wall pane?
On most stick-built systems, yes — subject to access, frame condition and matching glass build-up. We measure, source and reinstall with sealants compatible with the existing system.

Steel Grades, Cat Ladders and Anchor Questions

Where can I find your steel grade reference data?
Our EN steel comparison supplement summarises EN 10025 grades S235–S500, plus stainless and aluminium cross-material data, with a downloadable Excel workbook.
Do you fabricate cat ladders for SCDF roof access or solar PV?
Yes. Cat ladders, rest platforms and safety cages — designed against BS EN ISO 14122-4 and SCDF Fire Code where applicable. QP/PE endorsement is by the appointed consultant per project requirements. See our cat-ladder technical articles.
How do you choose anchor bolts for wall fixings?
Substrate first (concrete, AAC, masonry), then cracked/uncracked status, then load — the anchor (Hilti or Fischer) and bolt size follow. See Hilti vs Fischer anchor selection.

Quotation and Site Visit Questions

Do you do free site visits?
Yes for most residential and commercial scopes within Singapore. For very large or pre-tender scopes we may discuss a pre-construction service fee.
How quickly can you quote?
For typical scopes (gates, glass partitions, handrails, mirrors) we aim to respond within 2–3 working days of the site visit.
How do I send my requirement?
